Solheim Cup 2023

History:

The Solheim Cup, named in honour of Karsten Solheim, a prominent Norwegian-American golf club manufacturer and a driving force in its establishment, is a biennial golf competition that features professional women golfers. This tournament pits teams representing Europe against those from the United States.

The inaugural Solheim Cup took place in 1990 and initially occurred in even-numbered years until 2002, alternating with the Ryder Cup, which is the equivalent event for men. Following the rescheduling of team golf events due to the one-year postponement of the 2001 Ryder Cup following the September 11 attacks, the Solheim Cup transitioned to odd-numbered years starting in 2003. In 2020, further adjustments were made to the golf event calendar due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Consequently, the Solheim Cup is set to return to even-numbered years starting in 2024.

In terms of historical performance, the United States teams have clinched victory in the Solheim Cup 10 times, while Europe has secured the title on seven occasions. As of 2021, the current holders of the Cup are Europe, who emerged victorious at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. Buy your tickets here.
